Today: A car encased in ice, a baby gorilla, and a kingfisher in action.

One New Yorker will need more than some hot water and an ice scraper to get going as he wakes to find his car encased in ice. Parked on 2nd street between 1st and 2nd Avenues, the frozen Audi is another victim of the Big Apple's brush with Arctic conditions.

Noel Marry got the perfect photo of a kingfisher catching a fish, after spending a year setting it up. He built a fish tank in which he placed a minnow, almost completely submerging the tank into a river. He also built a perch above the tank and over the months the kingfisher got used to fishing its lunch out of the tank.

Telegraph reader Pat Dean sent us this picture of a great white heron in Nottinghamshire, saying: 'There are many lakes around Hoveringham due to gravel extraction and we get plenty of rare birds visiting, but this great white egret, which normally lives in very much warmer climes, has lived here all winter and is a spectacularly gorgeous rarity, hanging out with our flock of little egrets and herons. It seems happy to stand in the freezing streams, shuffling its feet to disturb fish and amphibians.' If you have a photo you'd like us to feature in a picture gallery, email it to mypic@telegraph.co.uk
