GAZA, April 29 (KUNA) -- Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has
accused Israeli Premier Benjamin Netanyahu of exaggerating the Iranian
nuclear threat in his statements.
The Iranian nuclear program did not make any progress recently, Israeli
radio quoted Olmert's assertion on Monday, while speaking at a conference in
New York, stressing importance of Netanyahu working intelligently and calmly
with US leaders in order to face what the Tehran threat might be in the future.
He indicated that Iran did not cross the "red line" yet in its nuclear
capabilities as claimed by Netanyahu in his speech to the UN General Assembly
several months ago. He affirmed the Iranian nuclear program has not been
making progress in years and that the extent of the threat has been
exaggerated.
In the same context, the former Israeli Premier urged Tehran to seriously
consider the statements made by US officials, who pledged that the United
States would do whatever it could to ensure that Iran does not have nuclear
capabilities.
Furthermore, he noted that prominent analysts had previously informed the
Israeli government that Tehran would have nuclear capabilities by 2009,
pointing out the same time that Iran still has not succeeded in accomplishing
its nuclear goal to this day.(end)
