It's Wales Sustainability Week starting today and the Welsh Assembly Government has called for as many groups to take part as possible.
Keep Cardiff Tidy – the city branch of the Tidy Towns project which works with environment charity Keep Wales Tidy and local authorities – will host a number of events in the week including a litter pick with Thornhill primary school tomorrow and with St Mellons Primary School on Thursday.
There will also be a tour of the recycling plant at Lamby Way for community groups on Friday.
To kick off the week-long focus on sustainable projects in Wales, Cardiff Rivers Group spent yesterday in the north of Cardiff with 15 volunteers clearing the area around Hailey Park.
Using shovels to dig out metal from the undergrowth, the group also managed to find bits of trollies, fences and piping... and even a pram! See a slideshow of pictures from yesterday's onslaught below.
The next Rivers Group clean up will take place on Saturday 29 May and new volunteers should contact louise.tambini@keepwalestidy.org and you can see their blog here.
