A Look at Art.com & Allposters.com’s Marvel Collection

A few months ago, a UPS guy turned up at my door with a very large package from art.com. I signed for the package but was thoroughly confused as to what it could be. The packing slip said that it was a Canvas, which made it even more mysterious - why would anyone send me a canvas?

As I peeled away the layers of packaging, a face stared up at me out of the box - it was Captain America! Not just any Cap either, this was a Jack Kirby classic Captain America panel! As I took the splendor of the image in, my jaw just hit the floor!

The info sheet that came along with the image informed me that this was a “Marvel Comics Retro: Captain America Comic Panel, Villain Monologue, Say Your Prayers (aged)“. The image is printed directly on premium canvas, with a UV-coat acrylic finish to protect the image from dust, moisture, and fading. The canvas is wrapped around 4cm wooden support bars to create a finished look that allows it to be hung without a frame.

It’s an absolutely fantastic piece of artwork. Obviously it’s a panel from a Jack Kirby illustrated issue of Captain America, but unfortunately, I have no idea what issue or year it is from. Allposters have done an excellent job in reproducing the artwork, blowing it up greatly from its original size, but still maintaining the sharpness of the image. The picture looks slightly aged, which I believe is done on purpose to give it that retro pop-art look that everyone loves so much.

This 40cm canvas mounted version of the image goes for $125, but it is also available on different sized canvass, as a giclée print for as cheap as $56, or as a giant wall mural for $350.
