Yesterday, my friend Rae (of Chartreuse Industries) popped by to check out one of my car seats and give it a tweak. While she was at it, she adjusted the straps for Boy#2’s height and gave me a bit of well-deserved guff about the projectiles in my van. See, my friend Rae is a registered car seat technician and she takes these things very seriously. π
We all want our kids to be safe from harm and one of the easiest ways to ensure this in our busy lives is to make sure their car seats are properly installed and our vehicles are free of debris that could become dangerous projectiles in a collision. It is so simple and obvious, yet can be difficult to accomplish. It is incredibly easy to install a car seat wrong — much easier than it is to install one correctly — not to mention the challenge of making sure you have the best seat for the particular shape and size of your vehicle.
Rae can help take the mystery and stress out of your car seat difficulties, offering service at her offices or your house. She has been a car seat advocate since 2003, a technician since 2004, and an instructor since 2009! She has installed several of my seats and I’ve taken her technician course — she’s fast, efficient, and extremely knowledgeable. Check out her business site for more details.
Rae has graciously offered to give away 5 car seat inspections via my blog. Here’s the nitty gritty:
– 5 seat inspections – value $30 each. Only one free inspection per winner — any additional seats or bases will be at regular fee.
–Β All inspections will be done at Chartreuse Industries office, and not at location of winner. By appointment only. See the business website for contact information.
– You must be local to the Ottawa, ON area. (Sorry, as much as she might like to, Rae can’t travel to BC to check your car seat!)
– This contest runs from September 21st – September 28th. Winners will be chosen via Random.org on September 29th and notified by email.

This is awesome! We totally need Rae’s help because our carseat is slowly sinking into the 60/40 split in the back of our Golf…just like a continental plate. We’ve got our pool noodle, but would love some help fixing it! Also, The Sprout has grown since we installed it, so some advice on positioning the harness would be very welcome!

We’re getting a new vehicle this fall (need to replace my hubby’s rustbucket before winter) and will need help installing our new Graco MyRide 65 in it!
She installed the Britax in my car RFing and that thing has not budged a bit since she put it in last October!!!
With the help of a friend, I installed the babyseat in our car, and for a time, all looked well. However, our babyseat is now doing a good impression of the leaning tower of Pisa, as it sinks not so subtly into the centre of the seat. Given how precious our cargo is, we could really use some help ensuring that our babyseat is safely installed.
I just purchased a new seat and after a couple days using it I have noticed that the bottom part of the strap is digging into baby’s legs which makes me think something is not quite right. A consultation would tell me way more than the user’s manual and then I would be *sure* I had it right.
Whether I win or not, I’ll be booking my consultation!
With number 2 on the way I’d rather have the job done by a professional and save my marriage. LOL
I need help since the wife is the handyman of the family!
@hugegolfhacker
We just traded in our car and this one has a lot less room for the rear facing seat and I’m concerned that it’s not as level to the ground as it should or could be, even with the pool noodle!

Seat leans to left, or
Is it right? Depends on your
Perspective. Help, please.
Just have to say, love the haiku! π
I would love to know for sure if my car seats are installed right. I think they are but I am sure that there is some tweeking needed. I still have my 5.5 year old in a five point harness too, so I would also be interested in discussing whether or not to put him in a booster.
I’d love to be sure our toddler seat is properly installed!

I am still early in my pregnancy (12 weeks), but I know the importance of safety for my child. Having recently attempted to put my friend’s child in a car seat and failing miserably, I know now that I can use all the help I can get. This is my first baby and I want him or her to be as safe as possible and Rae’s help would be greatly appreciated.
