Mortal remains of two Afghan Sikhs cremated with state honor in Ludhiana

LUDHIANA, Punjab—The mortal remains of two Ludhiana based Afghan Sikhs were today cremated with state honor at the crematorium situated in the Salem Tabri area of Ludhiana. Notably, the mortal remains of these two Afghan Sikhs namely Bhai Shankar Singh and Bhai Jiwan Singh were brought back to India yesterday.

Despite state curfew, many Sikhs attended the final rites. A state honor was given by the as many officials paid their respects to the victims. President of Gurdwara Dukh Niwaran Sahib Pritpal Singh, Akali leader Gurdeep Singh Gosha, ADCP Gurpreet Singh Sikand and ACP Waryam Singh and others were present on this occasion, besides the family members of victims.

“Jiwan Singh had planned to come back to India on Vaisakhi this year,” informed the wailing kin of Jiwan Singh.

Shankar Singh’s brother Manjit Singh informed that he had gone back to Afghanistan eight years ago. “He was doing garment business there and used to perform sewa in the Gurdwara Sahib daily,” he added. 

The duo victim Sikhs were permanent residents of Afghanistan.
