Irish star Máiréad Tyers quit cinema job after landing role in Extraordinary on Disney+

Her modest, easygoing charm has taken her all the way to the top, says Lauren Murphy

The day she landed the lead role in a new Disney+ show, Máiréad Tyers didn’t really celebrate. The 24-year-old Cork native, who is the star of Extraordinary, is low-key when it comes to such things.

“Oh,” she says, suddenly remembering something. “I quit my job in the cinema, actually — that’s how I celebrated.” She grins, rolling her eyes theatrically. “Thank God. I was only working there for a month at that point, but it was around the time that Bond came out, and the droves of people …” She sighs. “I was walking, like, 10km in a day. It was intense.”
