A COMBINED team of Police, Department of Immigration and the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) officers have raided Lusaka’s Chibolya compound and arrested 113 suspects for various illegal activities.

The suspects were arrested during a joint operation dubbed “Operation Chalo” which was conducted in Lusaka’s Chibolya Compound on Friday night throughout the morning of Saturday.

Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo, her DEC and Immigration Department counterparts Theresa Katongo and Namati Nshinka respectively have disclosed this in a joint statement today.

They said that the operation was conducted in order to disrupt illegal activities in Chibolya, following numerous complaints from members of the public.

“Out of the one hundred and thirteen (113) persons apprehended, fifty-three (53) were for immigration related offences, thirty-three (33) for drug related offences, while twenty-seven (27) were for general crimes such as being found in possession of suspected stolen property,” the spokespersons said.

They said that majority of those nabbed for immigration related offences did not produce documents to prove their legal immigration status in Zambia at the time of the operation, screening to ascertain their immigration status in Zambia continues.

And the LEAs also seized a significant amount of different psychotropic and other banned substances were found, including cannabis, suspected cocaine, boxes of Benylin codeine and instruments used to administer drugs.

  1. Now you see the poverty that Lungu has engineered is breeding all kinds of illegalities in Chibolya?

    • Raid Parliament and arrest those who have never said anything in assembly this year or ever. Arrest those smelling alcohol, arrest who have not visited their constituency since 2016. You end up with 113 PF MPs.

    • What poverty are you talking about, these operations were there maybe before you were born you quack. They were called Clean Up.

    • And some Minister is lecturing us about morality as the reason for banning some SA gay presenter when the police can arrest so many people in one night in just one komboni.

    • The Chibolya problem didn’t start yesterday, and unfortunately the raid won’t end it. They was a raid in Chibolya in 2017 and it’s only two years down that the same problems are back and big.
To sort out needs more than just raids.

  2. It looks more like a rubbish tip to me !! It amazes me that families live there and the government is only interested in raids rather than improving the environmental / sanitation issues. How do they sleep at night knowing how the other half lives?
As the others stated earlier, these raids should be extended to include those stealing public funds.

    • Its good to keep them there and poor so that when a thief like bowman comes with trucks full of bags of maize and cooking oil he looks like a Saint not knowiing he is stealing from them in turn contributing to their high taxes!!

  3. This problem has been there it has concluded to admonish chibolya and miss compound are too close to town centre and to relocated somewhere by 4th he govt now because of political failure there is still problem is still therefore current govt have acted have caused. Zambians stop defending things when are wrong because you are comfort with running party it is us to make them work. Pf we choose you to find solutions to all our problems if you cannot resign we try others. Remember every political party will be chosen with hope of finding solutions and resolutions to our today and future challenges. If you can’t find solutions or you think is beyond your energy quit politics

  4. These operations are good ,it’s just that you don’t take people from India and lwanda to their home country

    • @ Chali, really, this is what you take away from the story? I assume you are Zambian so is obviously not only foreigners who bring “confusion” to the country as you say. Rather, you had better look in a mirror.

  5. how can CHAWAMA HAVE IMMIGRATION PROBLEMS , DO YOU TELL ME THAT A FOREIGNER CAN STAY IN THAT FILTHY CHAWAMA COMPOUND,? HOW CAN CHINESE PEOPLE LEAVE THEIR ? IMPOSSIBLE SO THOSE IMMIGRATION ISSUES NIMA ZAMBIANS BUT NO NRC

  6. In the last three months I have wittnessed, Nigerians openly engage in drug dealing by Waterfalls mall and Garden City mall, Manda hills along with Northmead are well known drugs trading outposts. KK International airport, SMK airport-Ndola, HMN airport-Livingstone, are unbelievably porous, illegal drugs are literally ferried, by airpirt staff, out of the planes, South African airways, Ethiopian airlines, private planes, into the tinted 4x4s of the drug dealers. Its not hard to see why the airport authorities can never deploy drug sniffing dogs at these airports lest they threaten their satanic dealings.
