Church gifts family van for daughter with special needs

Georgia family surprised with van

DALLAS, Ga. — Generosity: That’s what one local church says helps keep their members going.

West Ridge Church in Dallas, Georgia, says generosity is “about going above and beyond and doing something completely unexpected for someone who deserves it ... Someone who maybe would never see it coming.”

That’s exactly what the church did for one family.

The Wheeler family calls their daughter, Rebekah, their giggle box.

The 8-year-old was diagnosed with microcephaly and lissencephaly as an infant. Her condition leaves her without the ability to speak, but her parents say she has her own special form of communication.

She is also fully dependent on her parents. They help carry her and transport her to wherever she needs to go. One issue the family runs into is their van.

They were invited on stage at the church on July 23 when they said their van was "was about to break down."
That's when the church's pastor surprised the family with a brand-new van that is fully accessible for Rebekah.

“This is about going above and beyond. That’s what generosity is about. It’s about doing something unexpected for someone who really needs it,” said Senior Pastor Brian Boyle.
