Benefits of physical activity

Physical inactivity is the fourth most common risk factor contributing to deaths and the burden of disease globally (Lee et al., 2012)

Meeting the physical activity guidelines can help to improve musculoskeletal health, cardiorespiratory fitness, cardiac and metabolic health, aspects of mental health and wellbeing and body composition. It can reduce the risk of cardiovascular events, improve T2DM, blood pressure and other cardiometabolic diseases.

While there are risks to beginning an exercise program or physical activity, there are a multitude of risks from inactivity i.e. obesity, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease and T2DM.
