Intel Core i9-11900KF octa-core lagged significantly behind Ryzen 7 5800X in Geekbench 5 multi-threaded test

Another sample of the eight-core flagship Intel Core i9-11900KF chip with an unlocked multiplier, but without an integrated graphics core, could not convincingly oppose the eight-core Ryzen 7 5800X in the fresh Geekbench 5 test. The results show that on the eve of the announcement, the Intel processor has improved single-threaded performance, however as a result of a multi-threaded test, it lagged significantly behind the competitor.

The chip was tested on an ASRock Z590M Pro4 motherboard with 16GB DDR4-2133MHz RAM. In other words, the low memory frequency definitely affected the final performance result, so it should not be taken as a final indicator. Nevertheless, the gap between AMD and Intel chips turned out to be so significant that it is difficult to attribute it to the difference in RAM frequencies alone.

The Geekbench 5 summary statistics show the maximum processor frequency of 5.09 GHz. However, in the test logs, you can see the frequency value up to 5277 GHz.

In a single-threaded test, the Intel Core i9-11900KF showed 1688 points, in a multi-threaded test – 8529 points. Compared to the previous engineering sample of the same chip, further optimization of the Core i9-11900KF allowed an additional 0.4% single-threaded and 22.3% multi-threaded performance to be squeezed out of it. In the first case, thanks to this, the Intel chip was 1% faster than the Ryzen 7 5800X. But in terms of multi-threaded performance, it lagged behind the competitor by as much as 25%.

There is still a lot of controversy surrounding the importance of single-threaded or multi-threaded performance in games. Still, it is sad to see that the difference between the flagship processor of the next generation Intel and the mid-range AMD chip is as much as 25% in favor of the latter literally a month before the official announcement of the series. Rocket Lake-S. True, one cannot fail to mention the fact that the performance that Core i9-11900KF gives in Geekbench 5 is, for some reason, significantly lower than the results of Core i9-11900K. However, the difference between these processors is only in the presence or absence of a graphics core. This allows us to hope that the performance of the Core i9-11900KF is not yet final.

Nevertheless, likely, the key factor influencing the choice in favor of a particular platform will be the new Intel series processors’ price and, in particular, the Core i9-11900KF model.
