One local high school student decided to dedicate her honors project to those with special needs

Dancing Beyond Boundaries from Brooke High School is a camp that’s going on this week featuring all kinds of students.

"I think it’s a great opportunity for these kids. You get a little teary eyed when you look at it. Everybody deserves a chance to be a dancing queen and a chance to feel special," says Shelby Mazzone, Brooke High’s dance team coach.

Brooke High School senior and dance team co-captain Kallie Delatore and her dance team create an atmosphere of fun for everyone as her senior honors project.

"Everybody kind of does sports camps and stuff and being on the dance team I thought do a dance camp, but we already have one so I thought it would be really cool to incorporate special needs," says Delatore.

Kallie and her team going above and beyond to make this experience special for their classmates

"Being in school with them all the time I just see them and I never see any events specifically for them so I thought this would be a great way to have them do something just for them," says Delatore.

Delatore isn’t just making her classmates day.

"I try to teach my girls that community service is huge and you need to get out there and do stuff for your community and never to expect something back and just the fact that she decided this all on her own and this is something she came up with and my team backed her 100% and was like what can we do to help what can we do to be there for you and just that happened I’m doing my job and it makes me happy," says Mazzone.

The camp is $20 to join and runs through Thursday August 3rd. If you haven’t joined yet you can jump in at any time. All proceeds go to the camp t-shirt and the Special Olympics.

September 8th these dancing queens and kings will get to show off their new moves at halftime during the football game.
