The remains of former Vice President Lupando Mwape will be repatriated to Zambia on Friday 25th January 2019.
Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa Emmanuel Mwamba said the processes and logistics regarding the repatriation of the remains have been completed.
Mr. Mwamba said the body will arrive on Friday in Zambia aboard South African Airways at 15: 00 hours.
He said he will accompany the body together with the widow, Mrs. Happy Prisca Mwenya Mwape.
President Edgar Lungu has declared a 3-day period of national mourning that is expected to begin once the body arrives in Zambia.
Mr. Mwape served as Vice-President of Zambia from 2004 to 2006 under President Levy Mwanawasa.
He also served as Zambia’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mwamba has also disclosed that Zambians living in South Africa will hold a memorial service for Mr. Lupando Mwape on Thursday,24th January 2019 at 17:00 hours.
He said the service will be held at St Martin de Porres Catholic Church Est situated at 35 Lancaster Avenue, Craighall Park, 2196, Johannesburg.
Mr. Mwape died on Monday at Avrywp Medical Centre in Johannesburg.

Rest in peace Sir. Each and every man has an appointment with death only that yours has come earlier. Its for this reason that man needs to reflect where he wants to spend eternity and continuously seek mercy from the lord for all the bad things we have done.
Where is the funeral gathering? The man was being kept by that woman on the copperbelt whom he was not even legally married to but has children with her. His wife abandoned him after he was recalled from china. Fellow men, lets change our behaviour.
If this is true, then a relative should host the funeral. I hear he came from a poor family.

Let the Government build a clinic that will be equipped with modern medical machinery, expatriates and experienced local medical doctors. Let this clinic be a center of excellency in the provision of health care like the way we used to have DK and Hilcrest as centers of excellency in the provision of high school education in the 70s. if it means that this clinic can only admit 20 patients let it be so that we cut on costs of repatriating people abroad for treatment

That 42 MILLION dollars would have been used to build and equip mama betty Clinic. The clinic of hope for Zambians!!!!
Taxpayers costs mounting …you add funeral costs, now freight, medical costs, flight costs..you will find that these reckless morons would have spent $500,000 on one individual instead of procuring the right equipment at UTH.
And the sad part is that they never ever disclose how much they spend on these evacuations and in some cases, subsequent funerals as if they use their own personal funds
We need the ‘Freedom of Information Act’ to question the expenditure of these public sector institutions who use taxpayers money to survive. I don’t even know or understand which Ministry funds these evacuations, and how this relates to the health budget. I cannot even comment objectively because I don’t know the Ministry nor the budget that foot the expense of evacuation! Very annoying.
It is pointless mocking the dead. Everyone of us has got an appointed time. For it is written it is appointed unto man once to die and thereafter judgement. It is folly to mock the dead when in actual sense all of us will one day kick the bucket. We need just to wish the dead rest in peace. It is unAfrican to talk ill of the dead like some of the threads here.
I know you’ll not publish this, but will write it any way. Sad though Lupando’s death is, it’s a reminder to Zambians of our failures as a collective. Medical institutions, including medical schools, are being built without appropriate goals and standards. We waste money sending moribund people abroad as political gimmicks. When will you realise the solution? Where are the wise? Let’s reflect and act!
