UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio– An assault caught on cell phone video shows a student with special needs being dragged and kicked in the head.
It happened in the halls of Cleveland Heights High School January 14. Marquies Brown tells the I-Team it was around 10 a.m. when he was jumped by another student.
“I was getting slid on the ground, and they stomped on my head,” Brown said.
The video also shows Brown being hit in the head with a bookbag.
His mother, Gwendolyn Logan, said the bullying has been going on for months. She added her daughter, a freshman, has also been assaulted.
“My son is a special needs child and he has been attacked viciously, stomped and I am just tired. I need help,” Logan said.
She added that her son suffered several injuries due to the assault and was taken to the doctor.
“They told me I suffered a concussion, a spinal injury, and nerve damage through my body,” Brown said.
University Heights police said someone sent them a copy of that videotape. They investigated and filed felonious assault charges against the two suspects.
And while Marquis and his mother are pleased with the help they received from police, they say the problems continue.
“Every time I go back they threaten me and wait for me by my classes,” Brown said.
School officials said they take the matter seriously and are holding assemblies to discuss bullying and other issues. They are also working with student peer groups.
Marquis, who is a youth leader at his church, said he just doesn’t want to live in fear anymore.
“Please. I just want for everyone just to leave me alone; let me get my education, graduate and be something. Please just let it go,” Brown said.
