Kevin Durant goes down in 3rd quarter with right calf strain

In the third quarter of the Warriors Game 5 matchup with the Houston Rockets, Kevin Durant hit a 15-foot jump shot on the right baseline, landed fine, but came up awkward on his trot back on defense.

Durant turned back like he felt something on his right leg, hopped a bit and then started limping. It was a scary moment, a non-contact injury that appeared to be a torn Achilles in the moment.

Durant’s reaction to the injury and the way he tried to walk off is similar to how others who have suffered Achilles tears have looked in the past, but thankfully, the news isn’t as bad as expected.

According to the Warriors PR team, Durant suffered a right calf strain.

Durant will likely still undergo tests and an MRI tomorrow morning to confirm the initial diagnosis and to decide how long he’ll be out. Regardless of what happens in Game 5, there are only, at a maximum, two more games before the Western Conference Finals, so the Warriors are likely hoping that Durant’s time out will be as short as possible.

UPDATE: I appears as if an Achilles injury has been ruled out, and that the injury is indeed in the calf.
