Business down at Wuhan Noodle restaurant in Markham amid racism, coronavirus fear

Owner says business has fallen by two-thirds and blames misinformation and racist attacks on Instagram reducing his clientele.

Wuhan Noodle restaurant manager Zhengyu Fang says his place has received racist comments on its social media channels due to the recent emergence of the Wuhan novel coronavirus.


“We don’t have bat soups!”

Zhengyu Fang, manager of a small Chinese noodle restaurant in Markham, didn’t know what else he could say in response to a barrage of prank calls that were intended to link his business to the coronavirus, a contagious, pneumonia-causing illness that first emerged from Wuhan, China.
