Red Bank Police have charged a 47-year-old man with false imprisonment. A police affidavit obtained by NewsChannel 9 says William Rogers admitted to cable-tying his wheelchair-bound wife in his home.

The affidavit says an officer responded to a disorder call to their home on Oak Street on Wednesday, May 21st.

He told officers that his wife was "too much to handle," according to the affidavit.

While the officer was there, the woman was yelling from a back bedroom.

The officer spoke with her, and she told the officer she had been diagnosed with brain cancer back in February, and suffered a stroke on Valentine's Day. She said at his request, she and Rogers got married in late March.

She told the officer since they got married, that he had neglected her, refusing to feed her or give her medication on schedule, according to the affidavit. She said he got upset every time she asked him to do something.

She also told the officer that two days before the officer's visit, he cable-tied her to her wheelchair for 6 hours, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit says she said Rogers took away her cellphone, and that she wasn't able to call her mother for help. Rogers later told officers that he was granted an order of protection from her mother.

The affidavit says the officer asked Rogers for her phone, and that he showed the officer the phone and quickly put it down saying there was no service.

Rogers told the officer that he did cable-tie her to her wheelchair, because, the affidavit says, he said she "was out of control."

An ambulance rushed the woman to a local hospital. The officer made sure she had her cellphone with her.

Police charged Rogers with false imprisonment and willful abuse, neglect or exploitation of an adult.

We tried talking to the woman's mother but couldn't get a hold of her.

Neighbors say they knew the woman was sick with cancer but never knew anything else like this was happening inside the home.

We also stopped by the Rogers home to talk to him about the charges, but no one ever answered.

Rogers is now out on a $12,500 bond.
