Opinion: Are Glasgow Rangers missing former playmaker?

Glasgow Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos and right-back James Tavernier are both missing out on what Daniel Candeias could deliver at Ibrox.

The Portuguese right midfield player was Morelos’s best friend in Glasgow and is still sorely missed by the Colombian.

When Morelos arrived in Glasgow from Helsinki, the first few months were so difficult during that lonely settling-in period.

It was not the Rangers players or coaches’ fault that they didn’t speak any Spanish, or Morelos’ English was almost nil – but he could score goals.

Once Candeias and Morelos teamed up and formed a close friendship, his initial teething problems of his new life at Ibrox faded fast.

The Colombian striker is also missing his Portuguese friend on the park, as he used to assist a lot of the striker’s Rangers goals.

Captain Tavernier is missing Candeias even more, as they delivered a real togetherness down the right-hand side, with dangerous attacking moves.

They had a telepathic understanding together, and Tav was thankful for Candeias covering up for him as he charged forward relentlessly.

The Rangers fans always appreciated his spectacular work rate. He was a real team player and nobody tried harder than Candeias for the team.

Should have Gerrard let him join Turkish side Genclerbirligi?

Rangers signed wingers Ryan Kent, Jordan Jones and Liverpool loanee Sheyi Ojo, so Gerrard presumed he was well covered for his new side’s wide positions.

Kent’s form has been really disappointing and Jones got a long injury against Celtic, with the mercurial Ojo so inconsistent and inexperienced.

With all three unimpressive wing men this season, it has shown the fans and coaching staff how much the presence of Candeias is actually missed.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but it seems that Candeias is exactly the type of player Gerrard would have picked on many occasions this season.
