Vehicle hits woman in wheelchair in Florence

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) - A vehicle struck a 52-year-old woman in a motorized wheelchair early Thursday, police said.

Crews responded to U.S. 42 near Ewing Boulevard about 6:30 a.m.

Rebecca Fischer was headed to Speedway and crossing U.S. 42 from north to south when a passing motorist hit her, said Capt. Tom Grau.

She was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center with a serious leg injury, he said.

U.S. 42 was briefly shut down but has since reopened.

It remains unclear if she was in the crosswalk, Grau said.

The accident remains under investigation.

No charges have been filed.
