A woman has appeared before Longford District Court charged with assaulting two people with special needs last year.

Roberta Neilon Hynes of Castlenugent in Granard is charged with assaulting a resident between 2 and 8 May 2015 at Oaklands Grove, Oaklands in Longford.

She is accused of assaulting the same person at the same address on 5 July 2015.

She is also charged with assaulting another resident at Oaklands Grove on or about 5 April 2015.

Judge Seamus Hughes asked Ms Neilon Hynes' solicitor if he would be hearing evidence from the alleged victims of the case when it comes before him.

A legal representative for Ms Neilon Hynes said this was not an easy matter because of the nature of the alleged victims, who both have special needs.

A solicitor for the accused said there were a large number of witnesses in the book of evidence and if a trial takes place it will take two to three days.

Judge Hughes adjourned the case until 9 February.

The judge has been told the Director of Public Prosecutions has approved of the case to be dealt with before the district court in summary disposal.
