Geek Theory: Kyle Reese Killed John Connor In The Terminator

So, here’s a geek theory to blow the minds of fans of the Terminator franchise. Before we get into it further there will be spoilers for the whole Terminator franchise, but the first two in particular, so be warned…

Still here? OK, despite however many sequels have killed or nearly killed the saviour of the future John Connor, the theory I will discuss today will be that it was in fact the hero of the first movie Kyle Reese who actually killed John Connor this whole time.

To quickly review the ways the film series has killed off John already let’s take a very quick look:

Terminator 3 Rise of the Machines – We learn that the T-800 played by Arnold Schwarzenegger that we see throughout the film had actually successfully killed John Connor in the future as it was able to take advantage of its resemblance to the T-800 that we had seen in Terminator 2. Having killed John, it was reprogrammed by Kate Brewster to go back in time and project her.

Terminator Salvation – A T-800 who we briefly see looking like Arnie before having it’s skin blown off manages to impale John and kill him…would be what I’d be saying if the original script had been followed. When this leaked out, they decided to change it so that new Terminator-human hybrid character Marcus decides to donate his heart to John to save his life after being impaled. The original ending would have seen John die and Marcus would have taken John’s face to continue the legacy of John Connor…I wish I was kidding, but that is what was reported at the time.

Terminator Genysis – In a twist in the series John is now a human-Terminator hybrid of sorts and is the main villain. Clearly he’s not the original John and was killed by Skynet.

Terminator Dark Fate – Edward Furlong who played John in Terminator 2 is back (in convincing CGI form) and is killed in the first scene by a T-800 terminator who was sent back in time to track him down at the same time as the T-1000 had been.

As can be seen from the above list the various filmmakers were determined to kill off John Connor no matter what.

But none of that matters as I’m here to explain how it was James Cameron who directed the death of John Connor in the very first Terminator movie! Here’s how it works:

We all know the famous story – In the future an evil computer intelligence called Skynet will cause nuclear war and almost wipe out all humankind. The only hope is a resistance fighter called John Connor who leads the humans to victory.

Just before Skynet is completely destroyed, they send a Terminator machine back in time to kill John Connor’s mother before he was born. Retroactive abortion as they term it in the film!

The only hope for both John and for the future of mankind is Kyle Reese, a resistance fighter sent back in time by an adult John Connor to protect his mother and in turn save his own life.

But here is where the problem begins…Kyle Reese goes back in time and sleeps with John’s mother and gets her pregnant. Reese then dies and the baby is born who is the only child of Sarah. This baby is named John and goes on to become the resistance fighter who will one day sends Kyle back in time to protect his mother.

But hold on a minute…I smell a paradox! Yes, it’s revealed in the films that Kyle Reese, who John Connor sent back in time to protect his mother was in fact John’s own father!

So, by sending Kyle back in time John in effect caused his own creation.

But we all know this is nonsense as it is a paradox.

There is no logical way for John to be able to send his own father back in time to cause his creation. A son cannot be born before his own father after all.

So how can this make sense? (even if we are still talking nonsense with time travel)

Get ready to have your mind blown…

The John Connor we see in Terminator 2 was not the original John Connor, and the original John Connor was wiped out of existence by Reese. Continued on the next page…
