Unfortunately this is only really playable on original hardware as you need the 64s keyboard layout and the surround that came with the game. Its easily the best Flight Sim on the 64 with tons of content and skill levels. Incredible presentation on and off screen with best in class graphics and atmosphere.

Played the mess out of this game as a kid. This and Gunship were my favorite Microprose sim games.

Still have my original Boxed Disk Version for this superb flight sim. As with most Microprose games, it's the impressive level of detail that makes this game so engrosing. Way ahead of anything else at the time, and never beaten on the CBM64. One of the CBM64's finest games.

This is a multi-loader, but on two tapes, so not the longest game by MicroProse.

One of the most engrossing sims on the system. On any system, in fact.

Ultimately, Microprose are my kings of the C64 and PSF is my all time favourite C64 game. The C64 isnt the best for 3D but the game's atmosphere and depth more than makes up for a sedate pace to the graphics. Superb game and it had a decent manual that i regularly delved into to absorb all the military details (Manuals! Remember them?)

Loved this game, although I only got to borrow it from a friend... I wish flight sims were as compelling these days.

One of my all time Fave games. Just a shame I had a dodgy tape version :|

Rickenbacker: Okay, I see. Though my version was also the European version, I live in PAL Land too. But I notice in the F-19-picture it says "Formerly Project:Stealth Fighter", so I guess they changed the title and the cover after awhile, and then used the new cover also for the Amiga/DOS/etc. Versions. Still, it's fine now that you can view three different cover pictures here, I had the number 2 cover in my version. Really cool and great game, gave me such thrill and fun that no game since has been able to do.

The problem is this plane's weapons were rather overpowered. And you could easily shake enemies if you remembered to turn on/off your jammers and drop decoys in time.
Of course if things got hectic you tend to forget and then you got hit and the fun of simply surviving began!

Overpowered weapons: once I realized I could destroy virtually every target with just my 20 mm guns, the fun wore a bit off.
Gunship was better in that respect.

Still, a great game!

I ordered this thing weeks in advance. I believe the original 'intended' title was Project Stealth Fighter - the game cover scan (which I submitted to Lemon) is that very store bought one I'm talking about almost 20 years ago now (look lower right). I was confused when the retailer handed it over to me - same cover different title? The problem was that this craft was shrouded in so much mystery that noone even knew what the thing looked like! There was wild speculation, a well publicized test flight crash a few years earlier... We all believed that it would look like the SR-71 Blackbird. Wow, were we wrong... :D

... Which was indeed called "F-19 Stealth Fighter", not "Project Stealth Fighter". Same game, though.

No, the cover is correct for the european version - I owned it, and still remember lugging that huge box home :).

The cover is wrong! The cover is from Amiga/PC game "F-19 Stealt Fighter", whereas the C64 version is called 'Project: Stealth Fighter'! It also had more interesting cover - I had the original game. So please fix this..

I had a blast playing this game. I remember it came out before the government actually released offical photos.

So brilliant, I still play it... It's is g r e a t !!! A Total 10/10, even Gunship only got 9/10 from me, if that tells you how good it is - another game where I almost get hard being so happy I kept this game, including the box manual and everything!!! A D64 and a text file just doesn't cut it with this doozy!!!

A game that makes your heart beat faster. Especially when you're returning to base with realistic landings. Extremely good game. 10/10.

As if Microprose game hadn't already taken up most of my youth, they then released this. What can I say... Flight Sim, Microprose, think you get the picture.

The loading time on my copy isn't very long at all, especially compared to the copy of Pirates! I have...
Ali Pouladi 2004-08-11
Never enjoyed this game much. Maybe because the load time was very long (although shorter than some other similar games like Gunship). But probably because my brother game me some money to buy Fighter Bomber for him, but I got this one instead (can't remember why). He was very angry back then. I still have a feeling that he still hasn't forgiven me after 14 years.
Almo! 2004-04-21
I played this like gunship: turn on the jammers, kick ass. I know I was missing the point, but it was fun nonetheless.
felchqueen 2003-09-17
I had the tape version, the loader was much quicker and more efficiently implemented than Gunship (I had to keep adjusting the heads on the tape drive to get that bugger to load)
A brilliant game, the nearest to get to it on the PC was F22 ADF. Top tips to increase your stealth rating, you can fly through mountains (go on try it). Also after completeeing the objective climb as high as possible with your remaining fuel, dump all bombs, missiles and turn you engines off, you can then glide all the way back home, the landing can be tricky though. Whilst gliding leave the gun sight on and the emey planes will fly past you and you can shoot them down. Congressional medal of honour every time.

Turn out the lights with only the light from the monitor shining on my map. I LOVED the mission where you had to knockout the radar installation deep in Soviet territory. The tension was amazing for this 14 year old back then! You could actually feel your brain assimilating all the information going on.
RGD in SLC 2003-06-11
I loved this game. There's nothing that really compares to it now. I loved going in invisible at night then spiraling down to drop a bomb, that was the greatest.
Rocky 2003-03-24
I bought this one in 1989 and spent many an hour playing missions. FAR cay from MS Flight sim 2002!!! But still loved the adventure. I would play it for about an hour, then the computer would heat up, and would have to reboot! I'm reading where some people had it on tape!? Good God! How long did it take between screens??? Wow!!
Callisto 2003-02-08
Awesome flight sim for the C64. Play Conventional War in Central Europe - it's one step away from WWIII.
SexyWayne 2002-08-22
Brilliant flight sim, almost as good as the newer sims of today, and with only 64k and newer sims need 128mb!!!
Matteo 2002-07-12
Very fun to fly with this simulator. It was one of the better buy I ever made.
Chuck Talk 2002-05-06
I loved this game. This was the one that got me working with computer's in the first place.
Wille 2002-03-31
I remember playing this on tape, took ages to load, but what a joy! I played some 90 missions (saved them all of course) and was always on edge if I would get promoted..
Cheeley 2002-03-06
The 2nd Microprose game I had, and a lot more cerebral than Gunship. One for all the sneaky pete's out there.
Boçù 2002-03-05
Gunship? Puah! This is faaar better. Great sim.
Simon Brown 2002-02-16
One of the best games ever made. A true joy.
Once you scratch the surface of this game you will find a wealth of enjoyment underneath. The sense of tension, strategy and action has never been equalled by any other flight sim ever made. Find it. Play it. Love it. Enjoy.
Roy 2002-02-03
The best flight sim on the C64. You could play this game forever and never get bored... Huge, deep and great graphics. A very polished package indeed. The bleepy intro music is the only criticism I can make of this exemplary game.
Mark Sheeky 2002-01-31
This game and Airbourne Ranger were the joint best games I had on the C64. The detailed manual and the NATO maps helped but even without this is one good simulation.
