Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

I've posted pics of the under-used ancient etching machine at A.Wright & Son a couple of times. I came across this photo of a similar machine in use in a book I was reading through last night. The photo is taken at a different cutlery firm, now long closed-down unfortunately. As you can see, it's being used here to etch table knife blades, but is used at Wright's for putting on the 'Real Lamb Foot' etch

I love the old pictures!
Do the knifemakers call that etching? If I'm reading the picture correctly, that looks more like an engraving than an etch. That is, it's mechanical, rather than chemical like an acid etch, and will be visible even with a patina.

Yes, they do call it etching r8shell, but then they also call lazer engraving etching. I think you're right though, though the lettering almost sits on the surface of the blade  I've seen acid-etching machines at smaller cutlers, which are a much simpler affair, and can only be used on one knife blade at a time.

I snapped this photo with the intention of sharing it in the Beverages & Blades thread. But, I like how it shows the swayback shape of the handle, the angle of the tip and its swedge, and the arcing light streak in the pile side cover of my A. Wright Buffalo Lambsfoot. We've been discussion all of these aspects of A. Wright Lambsfoot knives here lately, so I thought it better fitting to share here.

Enjoy your day, everyone!

Nice pic Greg, that's certainly a very attractive knife :) I prefer the Pile sides to the Mark sides on some of my A.Wright knives, including the one I'm carrying today, I think the pile side stag has more character. My apologies for not posting a pic, just recovering from one of those relatively minor domestic disasters that happen to all of us from time to time o_O :thumbsup

Jack black pointed me to this thread today. I have to say some great pictures and words on lambsfoot knives. I just order my first one from A.Wright knives after black answered a pm with a link to their site. I will be receiving one in rosewood and cannot wait. I will post pictures as soon as it arrives.

Thanks Alan, nothing a new printer, speakers, and some general tidying up, won't fix! o_O

Managed to furtively take a few pics of my two new A.Wright Lambsfoot knives in Sambar today :)

I'm sure glad the weekend is here :) Have a good one Guardians! ;)

Oh:( Sounds like water damage?

More like a combination of clumsiness, haste, too many wires, and doing too many things at once!

Both very nice knives, Jack. I especially like stag with long grooves like the top one. Does the pile side match, more or less?

Thanks r8shell :) Quick pic! In my opinion, the stag on the pile side is even better :) I wish Wright's had stag of this quality all the time

That is exceptional looking stag, Jack! Very nice score!

 look how straight the handle is!!!

I think I might have said earlier in the thread that two of Jack's recent acquisitions had lost their sway.... They will be remembered fondly.... :(

Thanks a lot Dylan :) Maybe if I slice enough bananas with them, they'll get some of their sway back? :D
