Blackwell Siwale: Zambians are competent to coach Chipolopolo

Football administrator Blackwell Siwale says Zambia has competent local coaches that can manage Chipolopolo.

FAZ is currently searching for a foreign coach as Zambia trainer after declaring that no local coach was suitable for the top job.

But Siwale, a former FAZ executive committee member, said local coaches have demonstrated that they can handle the National Team.

“When they (FAZ) say no local coach is suitable what do they mean? And in any case where is the money to recruit a foreign coach. There he is Aggrey Chiyangi he has won the COSAFA Cup,” said the former Nchanga Rangers President.

“We have local coaches who can deliver at National Team. All the local coaches need is support and more capacity building for them. We can even pick two senior coaches at once,” Siwale said.

Chiyangi is acting as Chipolopolo coach after the acrimonious departure of Belgian Sven Vandenbroeck.

The Belgian was hired on a short-term deal last year after the resignation of Wedson Nyirenda.

He was tasked with ensuring the Chipolopolo qualified for this year’s Africa Cup of Nations, but faile

  1. Stop fooling yourselves. No local coach can at present match people like Herve Renard. You need to have a plan to transfer skills from such people to the locals.
You also need to export a lot of players to the European leagues to get the experience and skills to later become good coaches. Stephen Keshi wasn’t a local player. He gained experience from abroad.
Blind belief in your nation like Mr Siwale’s won’t take us anywhere. Believe in Zambians but first invest in their skills.

    • I beg to differ. It is a Zambian Chambeshi’s team that beat White man Mr Renard’s dreaded Morocco recently. This inferiority complex we have we Blacks is what even caused the Indian Argarwal to steal our copper wealth. No wonder even Donald Trump insults us like that. Maybe he’s right. After we have no self belief. We always cringe and sink into a unseen shell of inferiority complex whenever we deal with whites. For those of us who have patronised a lot with so called whites we know one fact-There is NO difference between their brains and ours; and personally I have proved that I am better than many of them. Please, Zambians, let us wake up.

    • One swallow doesn’t make a summer. Unless you have n’t been to school, you can’t generalise about local coaches from one victory over Morocco.
Renard has won the nation’s cup three times. Zambia has gone to afcon with local coaches over half a dozen times and they have not won it. Stop bringing inferiority complex cards in a contest where you have no argument to back you up. It’s a practical argument and it needs empirical evidence. The European coaches have better skills because they have better schools and better facilities
The fact is Zambian coaches can’t make it. Do a research and see how many local coaches have won Afcon since 1964 and you won’t see three yet they are always there

  2. Stop fooling yourselves. No local coach can at present match people like Herve Renard. That doesn’t mean every muzungu is qualified.

  3. ARE AFRICAN NAMES NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR US?

BLACKWELL, GOODSON, WICKNELL, BORMAN LUSAMBO, FISHO MWALE, TITUS CHILUBA. THE LIST GOES ON AND ON. LETS TREASURE AFRICAN NAMES AND LOVE OUR LANGUAGE.

  4. Siwale must have smoked something….Zambian coaches do not always select players on merit but on petty personal issues
Up to now BC has not rectified the perennial problem of a back line that loses shape when attacked especially from the wings. He does not know who his second or third choice keeper after Mweene..
Local coaches only have up to a rooftop of ideas. Beyond that its trial and error!!!

  5. We can coach to a certain extent but until we get high level qualifications in strategy, psychology and tactics its not a bad thing to admit that we lack. In the meantime the likes of Chris Katongo, ba Agrrey, Numba even ba Beston should be attending coaching schools…. While we are at it let’s teach the boys English or assign interpreters. We should also pray in private. You cant pretend to pray at certain times and dance mayenge in the same match! We were lucky to win COSAFA 2019 but we are good…

  6. Zambians lets keep our cool on this issue! Which Zambian coach are we referring to? Which Zambian coach has not been tried in this area? Can we for once be serious on this issue, very few African countries have indigenous coaches on there bench. Most of the teams at the AFCON have foreign coaches. Even the best teams in the world have imported coaches, so please stop cheating yourselves on this issue. Nayaa ine!!

  7. Mr Siwale sir, with all due respect. I and many others on this forum do not agree and will not agree with you. Until we acknowledge our own inadequacies we will not achieve much in life. There is alot more to coaching than chipante pante. One of the very basic reasons why a local coach is not and will not be a solution in a long while to come is that local coach select based on favors and not merit. Its not uncommon to find local coaches either selecting based on the local club they came from whether is coaching or played for or based on tribe. The other major problem is that the whole Zambia system is a corrupt system. Its a cancer that started even 30 years ago and no one did anything as a result we are where we are now. Look at CBU or UNZA, they have some of the most educated people on…

  8. And for heaven sake not every former football players makes a good coach!
Intellect and good decision making are key attributes of a good coach…The late Zoom cost us the 1994 Afcon…why? This is a coach who despite seeing how ineffective Zefdy Saileti was in the game only thought of substituting him 3/minutes from time! So BC do not let a flash in the pan of a win against Morocco get into your head. Rather explain why you left triple C behind. None of that ‘ he had played too many games’ will sell to us!

    • Ba Zoom at 1994 Afcon finals iyo yaka kana. Mu lenasha ko ubufi
Nigeria 2 Zambia 1. Did not see ba Zoom pa bench

  9. I SEE ONE KAMBWANGA HERE COMPARING HIMSELF A BLACK MAN TO A WHITEMAN AND CLAIMS HE IS BETTER THAN A WHITEMAN ATASE TOTAL NONSENSE IWE MBUMBUZI A WHITEMAN IS INTELLIGENT THAN BLACK AND WHEN WHITE PEOPLE STOP THINKING AND INVENTING ANYTHING AFRICANS WILL DIE ,WHAT HAVE U DONE TO SHOW THE WORLD U EXIST? EVERYTHING U USE IS INVENTED BY A WHITE MAN EVEN KUNYENGA U LEARN FROM HIM, PLEASE DONT INSULT US, ZAMBIA U HAVE NO LOCAL COACHES FOR SOCCER JUST BRING A WHITEMAN TO BRING GLORY TO UR KA KANTRI
