A Chinese University of Hong Kong robotics team, Silver Strike, shaped up smartly to head a contest.

But they need to produce more if they are to represent the SAR in the Asia-Pacific Robocon Contest.

For Silver Strike had to share top spot with Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in the Hong Kong Robocon contest.

The competition at the Hong Kong Science Park saw two CUHK teams among 13 teams from seven institutions.

Teams had to design a robot capable of hurling arrows into designated pots plus a defensive robot to move pots to prevent an opponent from scoring.

A win came with the most arrows in pots in three minutes. "The competition required a lot of teamwork," said Kwok Lam-hin, Silver Strike's defense robot handler. "It needed a high degree of cooperation by teammates."
