A man pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a mentally handicapped man in Monongalia County Circuit Court Tuesday.

Shawn Swiger, 29, entered an Alford plea in front of Circuit Judge Susan Tucker to three counts of third-degree sexual assault. Swiger will face one to five years in prison on each count, according to Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Gabrielle Mucciola.

Swiger was caring for the victim during the time of the incident, according to the Morgantown Police Department. When the victim’s family arrived home, they found Swiger sexually assaulting the victim, police said.

By entering an Alford plea, Swiger admits there is enough evidence to convict him of the crime.
