Amid lockdown, SGPC is serving free food to almost 3,00,000 needy people everyday

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Amid countrywide lockdown imposition in India due to coronavirus outbreak, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee has emerged as a consoling body for those who lost their employment and became unable to fulfill the daily needs of food for them as well as their families. The SGPC is continuously providing free food to all such needy people without any disruption in Punjab as well as in Haryana.

Speaking to Sikh24, SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal informed that this service is being provided from all the 79 Gurdwaras being run by SGPC. “I have directed the managers of all these Gurdwara Sahibans to have a special attention to ensure availability of food to every needy one,” he said while adding that all these managers are effectively performing their duties with the cooperation of local administration and health department.

Longowal further informed that the SGPC is sending providing free food to almost 3,00,000 needy people daily. “More than 400 Gurdwara Committees have also joined SGPC’s efforts to help needy people in this tough time,” he added.

He has appealed the local Gurdwara committees to come forward to help people in this hour of need.
