NORTH LAUDERDALE—An 84-year-old woman was raped and beaten by a man who broke into her home Sunday night, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
She sustained several bruises and was taken to University Hospital and Medical Center in Tamarac, the Sheriff’s Office said. She then was examined at a sexual assault treatment center.
Her attacker is described as being in his early 20s, up to 5 feet 9 inches tall and having a small to medium build.
The victim lives in a neighborhood southwest of State Road 7 and West McNab Road. She was home alone watching television at about 10 p.m. when the man knocked on her front door and said things she didn’t understand, the Sheriff’s Office said. She didn’t open the door.
An hour later, she went to check out noise she heard coming from her bedroom. There she found the stranger, who had entered through a window. She grabbed him and told him to leave. He punched her in the face, pushed her onto her bed and sexually assaulted her.
She tried to fight him off. After the rape, he fled through the same window.
