A Pair of Pared Pears

We had to take a detour to Kathy's this morning as there was an accident on River Road. I captured another pair by 'junk' sculptor Patrick Amiot sitting on a lamp standard warning of a narrow bridge. I've shown them before, but I love them and they are better in color, so I've put them in extras. From the battered condition of the bridge and its surroundings, it doesn't seem that they have had the desired effect.

The rain stopped during the night and the day dawned not only sunny and warm but well washed and sparkling. Kathy worked on my knee and taped it up and I think I am ready for another cortisone fshot rom the lovely Dr Gonzales (the one who does not do surgery) on Thursday. I have another appointment with the surgeon, who seems to have done half the knee replacements in the county, in January by which time I think I'll be ready to join the queue.

It's been a long time since we have taken Spike on the Spike walk so we turned around and went to Spring Lake as soon as John had a chance to change out of his yoga pants. I told him they were perfectly acceptable as walking pants but he didn't agree. Spike loved it as much as ever, perhaps even more since it's been such a long time, but he did come back full of burrs and stickers. Fortunately he quite likes being combed.

Not much else of note happened today. If it weren't so serious, I think I would rather enjoy watching the Republican party implode, but a small number of right wing extremists is threatening to bring the whole government down and nobody seems to know what to do about it. The obvious answer is for the moderates to work with the Democrats to choose a new speaker, but nobody seems willing to entertain that notion. It strikes me that neither party seems to be in tune with what their constituents actually want and seemingly don't care.

I don't think this is a problem limited just to American politics, but I'll have more to say about that later....maybe.
