Water restrictions go into effect in Greater Victoria as of today, May 1st

Share

As of today, water restrictions around Greater Victoria will go into effect.

The Capital Region District (CRD) has begun Stage 1 of the annual water restrictions, which surrounds lawn watering.

Stage 1 water restrictions require lawn water to be redirected to Wednesdays or Saturdays, 4 to 10 a.m., or 7 to 10 p.m. for even-numbered addresses, and for odd-numbered addresses, it will be the same times on Thursdays and Sundays.

Golf course owners and operators are allowed to water fairways on any day during the hours of 4 to 10 a.m. and 7 to 10 p.m.

Lasting until September 30th, restrictions may increase depending on rainfall amounts over the summer.

Trees, shrubs, flowers, and vegetable gardens may be watered by a hand-held hose with a shut-off device or handheld container, or micro/drip irrigation system on any day at any time.

The above can also be watered with a sprinkler on any day between 4 to 10 a.m., and 7 to 10 p.m. during the current restrictions.

Municipalities may water lawns and boulevards during the hours of 1 to 10 a.m. and 7 to 10 p.m., Monday and Fridays.

The CRD have listed a number of tips and tricks to get the most of your drops, including sweeping outdoor surfaces rather than hosing them down, and recommending one inch of water per week for your lawn, even in the driest conditions.

Happy watering day!
