GRANDVILLE 12, JENISON 11:

The Bulldogs improved to 7-2 in conference play with a 12-10 win against Hudsonville and a 12-11 victory over

Jenison

last week.

Junior Jordan Kalsbeek was dominant on the offensive end in both games, scoring eight goals against the Eagles and four goals against the Wildcats, including the game-winner.

Jordan

is always there when we need a big play,” said Grandville coach Grant Weick. “He’s always been able to step up for us.”

Kalsbeek scored eight goals against Hudsonville, but the Bulldogs got contributions from up and down their lineup. Junior Cody Poll was instrumental on the defensive end, as he helped shut down Hudsonville’s top scorers. Juniors Tommy Parsons and Alex Thompson filled in nicely as well, helping to get the offensive attack moving.

“We’re starting to move the ball around much better on offense,” said Weick. “We struggled early in the year with our ball movement, but now we’re getting better side-to-side movement, and it’s becoming a big advantage for us.”

Junior goalie Cody Felker also had a nice game against Hudsonville, holding off a late charge by the Eagles. Senior Dan Moak chipped in an insurance goal to give the Bulldogs a 12-10 lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Wednesday night’s game against

Jenison

was hard-fought throughout, with Kalsbeek breaking a tie with less than one minute remaining. Kalsbeek scored four goals, as did Moak and senior Jimmy McDowell.

“Those three are always capable of making a play,” said Weick. “It’s nice to know that any one of them is capable of getting a big goal when we need it.”

The two conference wins put Grandville in a tie for second place in their division. Weick says his team focused on these two games and hopes to ride this momentum into districts.

“We’re very excited with the way we played this week, because we knew coming in that these were going to be tough games,” he said. “We really wanted to win them both badly, and now we’re hoping to keep it going into districts.”
