KNOXVILLE (WATE) – A Knox County bus driver was convicted Thursday after investigators say she left a child in the vehicle.

Ginger Lee Doane, 41, transported special needs students from Carter Middle School and Carter High School. The report says Doane parked the bus in a parking lot off Rutledge Pike after dropping children off at the schools.

Investigators believe the driver did not check to see if all children were off the bus. A twelve-year-old student remained inside the vehicle, according to the report. The child has cerebral palsy and other disabilities.

The report says Doane left the child alone for five hours. The student was able to get off the bus after the time had passed. Another bus driver spotted the child standing outside alone, says investigators.

A jury convicted the driver for reckless endangerment. Doane is expected to receive a sentencing on May 5.
