Cave Junction resident Eric Atcher, 55, died from a single stab wound to his left inner bicep, according to an probable-cause affidavit.
Atcher’s wife, Valerie Lynne Atcher, 58, was arraigned Thursday in Josephine County Circuit Court on a charge a first-degree manslaughter.
Valerie Atcher told police and others that she stabbed her husband with a knife “because he was calling her names,” according to the affidavit, which was filed by a detective with Oregon State Police.
He was found dead in the couple’s backyard, at 119 N. Boundary Ave., after she called 911 shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Valerie Atcher is being held at the county jail, with bail set at $50,000. She has a moderate criminal history in California, according to a court filing. She has been granted a court-appointed attorney.
She is next due in court Aug. 10, when an indictment is expected to be handed down.
