Missing Anchorage boy found safe

Update, 7:20 p.m.: Anchorage police say Stephen Alvarado has been found safe.

Original story: A 12-year-old boy has been missing since Friday night and Anchorage police want help finding him.

Stephen Alvarado was last seen near the 3800 block of Parsons Avenue in Mountain View about 8:20 p.m. Friday, said Anchorage police spokeswoman Renee Oistad.

Alvarado and recently moved to Anchorage from Dillingham, Oistad said.

In an email update Saturday evening, Oistad said the boy ran away from home. She said police have confirmed Alvarado was in a safe indoor location last night.

“Alvarado is aware people are looking for him and he is actively avoiding the authorities because he does not want to go home,” Oistad said.

She added that police had “extensively researched” the situation, and are not concerned for Alvarado’s welfare. She said the APD search team was called off after several hours of searching Saturday.

Oistad said police are still asking the public to call 907-786-8900 with information about Alvarado’s whereabouts.

Alvarado was described as 4-foot-5-inches, 105 pounds, and last wearing camouflage shorts, black and gray FILA shoes, and possibly a white shirt.
