.XXX Is Back

PornPoliticsThe InternetMy favorite Internet idea has reared its head again. Two Democrat Senators have proposed the creation of a “red-light” district on the .xxx domain.

When the Administration blocked this last year, I was beside myself. It makes no sense to refuse to act on something that would be good public policy simply because you would prefer the subject matter didn’t exist. Creating a .xxx domain would allow you to corral the porn, allow me as a parent to put a wall up that keeps my kids from getting to it (and provide me with an easy way to find it).

Unfortunately, the zealots want to end porn, not control it. So they ignore the fact porn has been around as long as civilization, and prevent parents from having an easy out for controlling access. This is the same stupid logic they use to say we would prefer kids abstain from sex, so we won’t be realistic and provide sex education in case that fails. We’ll tell teens full of hormones and curiosity they shouldn’t get their rocks off, and then complain that the teen pregnancy rate is high.

I hope Pryor and Baucus can get this done; but I suspect it will be opposed by the head in the sand crowd.
