A second-grade student with Down syndrome will test her spelling skills in a regional spelling bee.Sosie Smith attends Christian Academy of Louisville's Providence School and qualified for the competition after winning her class spelling bee.Sosie has always loved words and reading. She doesn’t let Down syndrome hold her back."My job as a mom is to find those little gifts and accentuate them and try to bring them out as best as I can," said Sosie's mother, Tara.Tara and her husband are helping their daughter prepare. They hope Sosie's story will encourage other children with special needs."She keeps hitting these milestones and exceeding my expectations," Tara said. "I just hope to open their eyes a little bit and enlighten them that the capabilities are there."
