Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Thanks. I like the extra sway on the reddish wooden one Jack sent me (no name on it, but whoever it was got it right). I consider that one less of a beater than the 2-blade Wright I was forced to transmogrify.

I like the shape of that 'Silent Lambsfoot' too, and also your modified knife with EO notch. I like to see knives that have been reshaped and adapted, by their users.:cool::)

Well spotted my friend, does this pic make it any clearer (unfortunately, it was a dimly-lit cellar)?

Couple of other pics I took at the same time :)

I reckon it's OK to have favourites...just don't tell the other knives! :D ;)

I thought you'd find it interesting my friend :) Cool pic of yuh knife! :D

I haven't seen those on sale anywhere for a while, but everyone I ever gifted one to said they were really pleased with it

I am going to have to get round to buying another rosewood Lambsfoot sometime. I sent this one to Charlie C when I was a newish poster here :)

Yes, it's a bit hard to make out on my phone, but they do seem to have the fairly typical rudimentary shape of Sambar antlers - just a brow tine and a single trey fork, usually. The Indian Sambar herd has larger antler genetics. Most of the Australian herd were introduced from the slightly smaller antlered Sri Lankan (or Ceylonese, at the time) Sambar. And Australia generally has calcium poor soil, too. So they're a little different in size from some of the Sambar we get here in Oz, but yeah, the lineaments seem the same.

Red deer antlers look much more impressive with a full Royal or Imperial set of headgear (three or four tined crown).

My Guardians Lambsfoot has just helped me open an incredible (and extremely well-wrapped) package of vintage treasures from my good friend @herder :)

Great gifts from herder. I'll be looking forward to seeing more of those knives in another thread.

That would also fit in with the time of when I got the knives. I wish I could have bought the lot off them! :D

Thank you my friend :)

Thanks, Keith, I got some coconut oil. I was also interested to see when reading up on it, that like Jojoba oil, it doesn't go rancid over time. Smells nice too, as you say, and seems to be good for the skin as well.

Yep we use it for everything even takes the dirt and grim of the mills I work in right off if used in the shower.

Great looking knives my friends. Hope you all have a great day.

Very interesting knife posted here: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/old-knives.527126/page-651#post-17588744

I'm hoping the discussion moves over here

What a fascinating knife! I will look forward to following whatever discussion ensues.

Great pic, as always, Dylan. I wonder if that comment about neatsfoot oil, was about the stuff adulterated with mineral oil. I use an old, well established Australian product called Dubbin, which works well, although it darkens the leather a bit, like neatsfoot oil.

Nice piece of serpentinite as well. I have a few pieces I picked up too from a very isolated old Chromite mine up in the Victorian High Country I hunt in, which was prospected between the world wars from memory, but never developed further, as it would have been a major operation to get anything in or out of the area.

Thank you, Chin. I know oil that contains any sort of mineral spirits is no good for leather or anything really that is vulnerable to solvents. Mineral oil, on the other hand, shouldn't have any adverse effects on leather as it is rather gentle all around.

I hope to visit Australia someday, it is on my short list of places to experience. It sounds like there are some stellar areas to explore.

I have this one with me again today.

A week or so ago , I posted this picture of the Lambfoot knives that I have . Two have Water Buffalo Horn , One has Ramshorn , and One is Jugged Bone .

My Friend mrknife mrknife told me that I needed one with Wooden covers . I told him that I did not need another knife . I had more than 10 or 12 knives , why do I need any more . After all : I CAN QUIT ANYTIME . The young Whippersnapper can not read too well or did not pay much attention to me .
This came in the mail today : A Very Nice A.Wright Lambfoot with some Wooden Covers .

The Mark Side cover has some very nice grain in it and a little browner color than the Pile Side which has a little redder browns .
The F&F of this knife is pretty darn nice and I am proud to add it to my collection .
This knife is pretty sharp . I don't yet know if Jack sharpened it or not . I f this is a true sample of a normal production knife , I just may have to order one some day .
Thank You VERY MUCH my Friend .

I am glad you enjoy it my friend! nope never sharpened/honed that edge. New as it came.

Harry that's great enjoy it buddy. That rams horn is really nice my I ask where you picked it up? Agian what a nice surprise the gift looks great.

Here's a shot of the grain in the covers, Chin asked if I was sure it's wood and I'm not sure but opinions are welcome Cambertree Cambertree

I bought it with intentions of having the scales replaced and using it. I really like the idea of having the 2 full blades in one frame and I've been wanting to try a lambsfoot but Jack and Charlie convinced me not to alter it. Thanks guys for steering me in the right direction :thumbsup: guess I'll have to get me an A Wright with a pruner handle and settle for a one blade lambsfoot :)

Here's the pics from the old knives thread and I'll get some better pics Saturday outside in some good light.
