Santa Rosa Island Authority Executive Director Paolo Ghio announced at a board meeting Wednesday that he plans to retire from his position.

Ghio, who has served in his position for 10 years, said he plans to retire April 1.

"We have been through many changes and challenges in these last 10 years and I reflect on them. As I reflect on them, I am left with a sense of honor to have been allowed to work with and for an exceptional board and staff that is the Santa Rosa Island Authority," Ghio said in a statement.

Ghio leads the SRIA, which is funded by lease fees from businesses and residences and is the governing body tasked with overseeing development and leasing on Pensacola Beach.

"(Ghio's) time and your service has certainly been very appreciated and your commitment to doing what is best for the island is unparalleled and you will certainly be missed here," said Brigette Brooks, chairwoman of the board.
