A mother who lost her hands and feet in 2013 after a cough turned into a near-fatal bout of septicaemia is set to attempt her first triathlon.

Corinne Hutton, 47, hopes to become Scotland’s first double hand transplant patient, but had to be taken off the waiting list three months ago when she had most of a lung removed that had been damaged by her illness.

Nothing has stopped Ms Hutton, from Lochwinnoch in Renfrewshire, training for the greatest fitness challenge of her life. She has new running blades to compete in the London Triathlon, the biggest event of its kind in the world, on July 22.
