Interesting news regarding the main RTS programme awards (whose nominations will be announced in March). They’ve now changed their awards eligibility time frame to the calendar year that BAFTA follows (Jan to Dec).

Programmes that are eligible (but weren’t before) there include:

    A Spy Without Friends
    Bad Education (Christmas Special)
    The Crown
    The English
    Funny Woman
    Great Expectations
    I Hate Suzie Too
    Litvinenko
    I Am Ruth
    Riches
    Without Sin

They also have added two supporting categories as well as one for comedy drama so it will be interesting to see what their lineups end up being now (especially considering that before they were already the closest thing we had to a simulation of the BAFTAs pre-nominations).

TV FYC: Juno Temple ("Fargo"), Tony Shalhoub ("Mr. Monk's Last Case"), Rashida Jones ("Silo"), The Curse, The Gilded Age and Slow Horses in all categories.

Film FYC: All of Us Strangers and Poor Things in all categories.

Single Drama looks like it’ll be between five or six candidates.

Life and Death in the Warehouse
    Then Barbara Met Alan
    Floodlights
    My Name is Leon
    Maryland
    I Am Ruth

There may be a surprise though like there was with Death in England: Face to Face this year.

I just noticed this rule change from BAFTA’s press release on the TV awards last month and I’m over the moon! Hopefully it can lead to the entertainment performance category to finally get its first female winner after what will have been THIRTY years since its last next year.

    Entertainment Performance

The top three male and top three female performers from the Round One: membership vote will now automatically go through to jury consideration. This new intervention, a first for the TV Awards, will increase the visibility of women at longlisting stage, with the longer-term aim to encourage a greater representation of women considered. This sits alongside BAFTA’s wider charitable work to level the playing field for all.

TV FYC: Juno Temple ("Fargo"), Tony Shalhoub ("Mr. Monk's Last Case"), Rashida Jones ("Silo"), The Curse, The Gilded Age and Slow Horses in all categories.
