With his dying breath, Lazzaro de Medici whispered, "Expose the secret of heaven" to his one trusted friend: Aiden Leonardo. So with an encrypted letter and an obligation to his older mentor, Aiden evaded the FBI, Chicago PD, and a secret organization to uncover the truth behind his friend's murder. As time begins to run out, Aiden discovers that more than just his life is at stake. The lost bible could uproot the views of every religious group in the world.

It was fast-paced and non-stop action. At every turn, the characters were uncovering new clues or delving deeper into conspiracy. Right when I thought I knew what was going to happen, a character would do the unexpected or flip sides. I enjoyed the controlled chaos that the author described during action scenes and the constant battle between good and evil. It kept the reader guessing on whom to trust, which always makes a story more exciting and unpredictable.

There were many things that I enjoyed about this book including the creative storyline and character development. Even though there were a lot of characters to remember, I felt that the author did a wonderful job developing their personalities and backgrounds. My favorite character was a computer whiz that added comic relief during more intense scenes.

With all of this being said, I would rate this novel a 3 out of 4 stars. It was captivating and intriguing. It kept me on my toes trying to anticipate what was going to happen next; even though, I sometimes got lost because of the viewpoint changes. In a way, it reminded me of The Da Vinci Code novel because of all the religious references and mysteriously encrypted letter. Anyone who loves mysteries and enjoys the action of a good thriller would enjoy reading this novel.

The story kept me reading to find out the secret of the lost Bible. Once I got past the multitude of characters and changing perspectives (which was a little disorientating for me), I found the biblical references intriguing and the writer's representation of today's society thought provoking. While reading, I think it's important to remember that the story is a work of fiction, religious views expressed by the characters should not to be taken literally. The story is about the hunt for the lost Bible, which holds a secret so great that people would kill or die to protect or expose it. The story references different religious texts and looks at humanity's struggle between truth and power. There is also familiar character-types e.g. the cool professor, knowledgable reporter, hateful but powerful magistrate, sassy female characters, corrupt detective wanting redemption and geeky funny sidekick, all with different motives. It's a plot-driven first novel, I look forward to a more in depth exploration of the secret and further character development in subsequent novels.

Felix Alexander (1976-Present) is a Mexican-born, American-raised novelist and poet of Spanish, Mexican, and Puerto Rican descent.

Acclaimed by readers for his poetic prose, his indie releases have garnered him a little praise and a small, but loyal audience.

Being third-generation military, after a grandfather and two uncles who served in the Korean War and Vietnam War, respectively, Alexander is proud of his service in the U.S. Army and grateful for his experience.

The Secret of Heaven is a fast-paced story about an ancient text called the Gospel of Barnabas. In this text is revealed a messsage that would shake the very foundations of the Catholic church. Lazzaro was the last man known to have possessed this Lost Bible. With his last breath he charged Aiden, a professor in Biblical Studies to find the bible and reveal its message. However, nipping at his heels, is The Group. The Group is headed by a man known only as the Magistrate, and he rules the worlds economy through govornments, conflicts, and the church. Aiden is surrounded by memebers of The Group who will stop at nothing to destroy him and the Gospel of Barnabas, but knowing who they are proves nearly impossible, as they could be government officials, polce men, or even his closest allies.The books cover suggests ancient secrets requiring world travel to binng them all to light, and the reader will not be disappointed. Magic, mystery, and religious thinking are all challenged in this memorable story. Each character plays a vital role in the storys development, and aids in the flow of the story. Keeping track of everyone, and which "side" they are on proved difficult, and I often felt I should have been keeping notes from the beginning. However, that fact simply reminded me of other amazing works, such as The Divinci Code, and The Count of Monte Cristo. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to all who are able to understand the intricate way religion and spirituality affect our lives.

Above all, I give this book four stars. I did enjoy reading this book, but I honestly lost interest for a couple of weeks. I did stop reading for the month of July after having started this book. But it’s not because this book was a bad read, I just happened to be busier than usual. I have a couple of things going on in my life right now, so it was taking up all of my free time. But I digress. This book had a Da Vinici Code and Angels and Demons feel to it. So if you really liked those books by Dan Brown, then you will be interested in The Secret of Heaven.

Back to this book that did keep it interesting. I'm not really sure how to summarize this book because it has so much going on. All the characters are interwoven in some way. We meet Aiden Leonardo who is a professor of Biblical Studies and Folklore. He is the main character. After his father figure, Lazaro de Medici, is killed, he is told to expose the “Secret of Heaven”. However, Aiden barely remembers that clue when he is sprung from the Hospital by his fiancee, Miriam. Aiden has amnesia and is trying to figure out what this Secret is and where he can find it. We meet Miriam, and Detective Marquez, who works for the Chicago PD and who has a past with Miriam. The FBI is involved in the case as well as Lorenzo de Medici, Lazaro’s son and Aiden’s “brother”, and his connection to the Group. We also meet Lorenzo’s girlfriend Susan Rosario. This all without giving too much away.

There are of course obstacles galore and conspiracies with the “Lost Bible". It is action packed and suspenseful. It makes me feel like I am in Chicago traveling throughout the city with the characters. You see all the action from Aiden and Miriam running around the city trying to not get killed and figuring out where to find these clues to expose the “secret of Heaven". You want to tie all the pieces of this puzzle together. I feel Mr. Alexander did a great job with his research and knowledge of history. He keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. I felt i was in the tunnels with Miriam and Detective Marquez and in the driver-less car with Aiden and his friend Nagi. I am really looking forward to seeing how Mr. Alexander creates new mysteries and secrets for Aiden to uncover in the future.

I found the discussions of the Gospel of Barnabas and the Rosicrucians intriguing, as I had never heard of either. It led me to Google both.

The story itself was ok. I had trouble figuring out whether some characters were bad guys hiding as good, or good guys who were supposed to be bad guys hiding as good. It would have been easy for me to put the book down and not finish it, but I pushed through to the end.
