- "A very informative book that would guide us towards an ultimate success. "The Happiness Journal" by Viet Hung is definitely the most reliable source of warding off all the burdens of a depressed and worried mind. It acts like a tranquilizer and heals the mind more than a prescribed dose of a tranquilizer might ever do. The book in itself is a well-established rehabilitation center, it shows us the way towards a life full of all the meanings that we wouldn't be able to explore otherwise." - Reedsy Discovery

- Reviewed in the United States on June 3, 2021Vietnamese author Việt Hùng earned his degree from Polytechnic University, Ho Chi Minh City and has served as a software application programmer, software business analyst, engineering manager, and director. He is the co-founder of KMS Technology and was the successful managing director of KMS Vietnam until retiring from that position in 2018 to pursue happiness.
Written as a series of blog posts over the past ten years – ‘I seriously started writing a blog in 2009. Since then, I’ve kept writing and following my own sense, feelings, and thoughts without thinking too much about who would read my posts. Now that I’ve read through all of my posts again, I’m thrilled to see that he core values I chose to adopt at the beginning of my journey are still fresh and still hold true ten years later. They have helped bring many happy moments and luck into my life!’ – the book simply works!
The general path that this spiritually uplifting collection of thoughts is suggested as the author writes, ‘Sensing Happiness: We’re born, we grow up, we get old, and we ultimately depart from this life. That’s a harsh and inevitable yet natural process. Interestingly, some questions accompany us throughout the course of our lives: Are we living, or just existing? Are we living for ourselves and being ourselves, or are we just living a dependent life? With each moment that passes by, what can we learn from it? What is the meaning that this life brings to us?’
Accompanied with color photographs when appropriate, this little journal is rich in helpful thoughts to initiate our probing the meaning of life and happiness. This is a tome to keep by the bedside to help make the days and times make sense by searching beyond into the realm that Việt Hùng takes us. Grady Harp, June 21
- Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2022People all over the world are struggling with issues such as war, stress, interpersonal issues, and poverty. For many of us, it’s difficult to stop worrying and cultivate a positive mindset. Therefore, books like The Happiness Journal by Viet Hung are more important than ever.
This work is a compilation of Hung’s posts, which he first published on his personal blog. They touch on various topics such as finding happiness at work, letting go of worry, achieving inner peace, and interacting positively with others. While some of the chapters are simple observations, others are based on an event from the author’s life or include an anecdote.
The posts are meant to be read one at a time. For example, you can keep the book on your bedside table and begin every day with some positivity or read a chapter before going to sleep. That way, there is time for each message to sink in and impact you before you move on to the next.
What’s particularly impressive about Hung’s work is that he is a non-native English speaker who translated his entire book on his own. To me, this worked really well because he has a unique yet easily understandable voice. What’s more, his cultural and religious background might offer a fresh perspective to many Western readers.
If I were to suggest one thing to add to this journal, it would be more practical exercises. The author includes some links and QR codes to his meditations, which are very helpful. I would have liked to see his suggestions tied together into a program or “mental exercise plan” for the reader to follow. Maybe this could be an idea for a follow-up book.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2020Viet Hung is the man behind the magnificent and powerful self- help book “The Happiness Journal”. This masterpiece of 200 pages gave me great comfort and peace in this chaotic world, especially in this unexpected pandemic’s time that we are living.
The writing is forceful, beautiful and honest. I received inspiration, education and amazement from the author. He tries to make readers ask some philosophical but really important questions. Many people don’t even consider that they could be doing something different with their lives until it is too late. Are we actually living or just existing? We walked by inertia without thinking, enjoying or even feeling.
He guides our mind to do something different, to find a purpose in life. This piece of work sets a theme to think about and encourages some insight, a little step towards a more independent personality at a time. It is written in a very insightful and respectful way.
Without hesitation, I am going to read other titles of this author as this one left me more than caught up in its pages.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 29, 2022The forward explains that this book is a collection of blog posts, so I did understand that going into it. But it does feel very disjointed. I liked the personal anecdotes and there were some nice stories that gave me a new perspective on different aspects of my life. But a lot of it seemed to be the overly positive, "just choose to be happy" narrative I see a lot. Sometimes that can be a helpfull reminder, but it didn't really offer any tools or much inspiration for me. Most of it was an enjoyable, easy read. But I don't really like to format of jumping from one unrelated blog post to the next. Maybe a more cohesive layout of the posts would help.

4.0 out of 5 stars Full of enlivening ways to see life
Truly amazing book, inspiring in general and providing a way to look into your life. Sometimes it tough for us get through hard times and a lot of self realisation is required and this book by Viet Hung surley lays down the foundation of that self realisation.
The book of full of enlivening chapters, it addresses what our lives are made of, the daily struggles, choices, moments, happiness, gratitude and everything that allows us to live our life best way.
This book is surley a guide to live our life or at least it teaches us the importance of understanding and reflecting the lived through experiences, all comes together to help us is arraying down our life objectives.
The book starts with chapters dedicated to self realisation, building an individual identity and some lessons are there which tell us how to negotiate the bad times. Chapters in second phase are all about spiritual growth and developing your identity to a social level and importance of ethical decisions.
The words are well thought out, and after reading this book I felt that there are so many small things which can be changed and we'll see big results in our favour. The entire phase of third chapter tells us the importance of the happiness that comes from within. In fact, you don't have desperately look for happiness, just make a way for it to come by relieving yourself from unwanted barren thoughts, insecurities, fears and the vanity of life.
What I really liked about this book is the division of chapters together three really thought out concepts of a person's life. The tone couldn't have been more serene, it is conversational and written through so calmly. Must be reading again sooner because there is so much in this book I can relate to.

The Happiness Journal by Viet Hung is a collection of thoughts and messages, and the nice thing about this work, is that you can read it in any order, you can pick and choose which pages you want to read.
This is a fantastic book that not only gives you a list of things to consider in order to enhance your life but also explains each one in-depth and provides practical examples.

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly enjoyable book to help transfer everyone to be a happy-all-the-time man
Frankly, I have been a fan of Viet Hung for his great and inspiring leadership for years. That motivated me to choose his book to start my 2020 reading project. Not surprisingly, this book brings me a great deal of practical wisdom shared from the authors' real-life experience: how he managed to successfully co-found and build a leading IT company in Vietnam from zero, how he decided to resign from managing director position at such an ongoing successful 1000+people company and transfer himself from a successful entrepreneur, a greatly respected business leader to be a happy-all-the-time man. Even after closing the last page of this book, I still feel being touched by Hung's words. Happiness is not a destination, but a journey itself. This book is just a great hook for me to start the new year 2020 and continue walking happily on my happiness journey: # BEHATT

4.0 out of 5 stars Will come back to it again and again
The Happiness Journal by Viet Hung dives into the idea of happiness, what it means, and how can one achieve it. The book draws from the philosophical ideas of happiness, the author’s own experiences, and folk tales that deal with similar themes.
One thing I really like about the book is that the author has dedicated an entire section to the pursuit of happiness in one’s professional life. The author has talked not only about an individual’s role towards making themselves happy, but also the role of the organization one is part of.
The book tells you actionable things you can do that will contribute to your happiness like meditating and focusing more on the good parts of life than the bad parts. It also provides you with resources in the form of QR codes and links to make it easier for you to access these. It also explains through philosophy concepts related to happiness that are quite simple but are pushed to the back of our minds because of our daily lives.
The best part about this is that it is written in bite-sized chapters that you can consume at your own pace. If you really like to savor books or if reading big books is something you find scary or overwhelming, you can read one chapter at a time. But if you are a fast reader like me, you can finish it in one sitting – and come back to it again because the wisdom contained in this book is timeless.
