Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Jack, it is exiting to see Mallory's knife.

Incredible isn't it Mike? I have read about Mallory since I was a boy, in fact an old friend wrote a book about him, but of course I only discovered he carried a Lambsfoot relatively recently. Both Charlie and I have posted pics of the knife in the other Lambsfoot thread (see link in post 1), and there's some discussion about it there. Here it is with the onther items which were found on his body, the knife was in a small leather slip.

Nice to see that one GT, got mine in my pocket right now :) I'd post a pic if Photobucket wasn't down :grumpy:

Thanks Jack, I've seen the photos and the discussion :) but it is always exciting seeing this knife as I myself read stories about him as a kid.

... The lambsfoot is, of course, the centerpiece-- literally and figuratlvely. Its hand-filling handle is a revelation.

Thank you, so much.

Great stuff, P. (and nice work, Jack)! The owl coasters (I suppose they're called "beer mats" where they came from) are certainly fitting given the recipient. :D And that's a beautiful lambsfoot!

Greg, that is a very beautiful new addition my friend, as is the Lambsfoot you gifted to Stonebeard

Great to read your impressions of your new Lambsfoot Stonebeard, and thanks for posting in this thread, it's good to have you here. Superb-looking knife  As a climber, I'm sure you'll appreciate this photo of George Mallory's Lambsfoot :)

Congrats, Brett; the geometric pattern of the light-colored "feathering" of your buffalo horn is entrancing!:thumbup:

Greg, I've enjoyed the variety in your photos of your buffalo horn lambsfoot, and now I'm looking forward to seeing this bewitching ebony version in different lights and situations!!:thumbup: Congrats on another gorgeous example of the pattern!

Congrats on the lovely lambsfoot, StoneBeard! Thanks for the insightful review and testimonial. (Plaudits to Greg for the splendid gift!)

Very nice, ADEE! :thumbup::thumbup:

I'll post mine here, just for luck! :D (Thanks, R.c.s.)

- GT

Thank you Jack and 5K. I'm enjoying the knife more every day. I found the post back in April about George Mallorys Lambsfoot, compass and goggles recovered from Everest incredibly interesting. So much so that I actually had saved the original pictures that were posted and enjoy looking them over from time to time and thinking about the many adventures and final journey Mallory's Lambsfoot made. Pretty incredible it was recovered and definitely another outstanding reason every knife lover should have a Lambsfoot. Fingers crossed that one day a recreation is produced in memory and spirit of his adventures

:D I enjoy my Wright senator immensely, but I think your stag is a better/toastier than mine, Jack!;) Great knives!:cool:

Thanks a lot GT :) That is a bit of sambar on mine, it's quite hard to get here now because of the Indian export ban

Glad it arrived P, and hope you take to the Lambsfoot :)

Thanks Barrett, yes 'beer mats'! :D

Honestly, I did not pay attention to this thread until I came across an "A. Wright" lambfoot knife, and as of now one in rosewood is on my way. It is, indeed, a very useful design, now that I looked through this thread. Shall post pictures as it arrives. Meanwhile, I'll continue to drool looking at the ones in this thread... :)

Here's something to look at while you wait. ;)

r8shell, is that the same beauty that is pictured in post #7 of this thread? If so, it's nice to see it again. It was seeing that picture of yours and one of Jack's pictures of his buffalo horn A. Wright on the same day in the Totin' thread that gave me the final nudge I needed to order a lambsfoot of my own. :D

Yes, that's a picture from when it was brand new, a gift from forum member after I had an epically difficult time acquiring one for myself.

I'm glad it inspired you to seek one out. This is how a cult sustains itself. :D

Jack - I can't quite make out the tang stamp. Who made this?

For some reason I always thought this had stag scales, but if you look at it closely it must be jigged bone.

I am glad and proud to be part of the Guardians of The Lambsfoot order, thanks to Jack the one and only :)

It's great to see the renewed interest in this thread! I've been quite busy and remiss in properly following up, but have a few minutes this morning to catch up.

Thanks for the compliments Jack, Barret, and GT.

StoneBeard, pertinux, Mike B., and choombak, it's exciting to have a wave of new folks joining the Guardians. I think you'll all enjoy putting them to use. I carry one frequently and continue to be impressed at how darn versatile and just plain useful it is.

My buffalo horn A. Wright will be accompanying me today on an urban adventure. My company was supposed to go sailing today on the San Francisco Bay—hence the nautical theme in the photo—but inclement weather has caused a change of plans. Instead we'll be visiting the Exploratorium, which is a wonderful hands-on science museum. It seems fitting to carry the pattern of choice of an explorer like Mallory to a place called the Exploratorium, even if it is at sea level.

Excellent post Greg, I hope you had a great afternoon :) You will have been busy if you have been reading The Ashley Book of Knots my friend! :D ;) It makes a great background to your lovely Lambsfoot
