PORTLAND, Ore. — The mother of a student with autism has filed a lawsuit against an east Portland school district, claiming a school aide assaulted her child on a school bus last year.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reports Barbara Sideroff on Tuesday filed the suit against the David Douglas School District, claiming aide Natasha Jensen grabbed her 8-year-old son by the jaw and hit him on the face in June.

The suit seeks nearly $1 million for medical expenses and pain and suffering.

District officials declined to comment on the suit as it is pending.

Officials say Jensen worked for the district from November 2016 until June 2017. The district declined to give a reason for Jensen's departure.

The newspaper could not reach Jensen for comment.
