Congress announces candidates for five Lok Sabha seats in Haryana, fields Bhupinder Singh Hooda from Sonipat

The list also includes the name of former minister Nirmal Singh who has been nominated from Kurukshetra, a seat represented by Congress leader and industrialist Naveen Jindal from 2004 to 2014.

Chandigarh: The Congress party on Sunday announced the candidates for five Lok Sabha seats in Haryana fielding former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda from Sonipat.

The list also includes the name of former minister Nirmal Singh who has been nominated from Kurukshetra, a seat represented by Congress leader and industrialist Naveen Jindal from 2004 to 2014. Jindal was defeated by BJP's Raj Kumar Saini in the 2014 general elections.

The list of candidates was announced by party's General Secretary in charge Central Election Committee Mukul Wasnik.

Bhavya Bishnoi, son of former MP Kuldeep Bishnoi will contest from Hisar while Kuldeep Sharma and Avtar Singh Bhadana will fight election from Karnal and Faridabad respectively.

Earlier today, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) which was looking for an alliance with the Congress party announced candidates form three Lok Sabha seats, nominating Naveen Jaihind from Faridabad, Prithviraj from Ambala, and advocate Krishan Kumar Agarwal from Karnal.

The AAP is fighting the Lok Sabha elections in Haryana along with Jannayak Janta Party (JJP). The JJP already named four candidates including Dushyant Chautala from Hisar, Pradeep Deswala from Rohtak, Nirmal Singh Malhadi from Sirsa, and Swati Yadav from Bhiwani-Mahendragarh seat. It will announce three more names for the remaining seats in Haryana.

All the 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana will go to polls on May 12 in the sixth phase. The counting of votes will be done on May 23.
