If you are a caring and compassionate individual who wishes to make a meaningful contribution to the governance of St. Joseph's Care Group (SJCG), a Catholic sponsored organization serving the people of Northwestern Ontario, we look forward to hearing from you. For the upcoming term, we are seeking those with experience in government relations, population health and an understanding of Indigenous Health, Culture and Governance.

SJCG combines tradition and innovation in responding to the unmet needs of the people of Northwestern Ontario since 1884. We are here for our clients, offering a broad range of programs and services in Addictions & Mental Health, Rehabilitative Care, and Seniors' Heath across eight sites in the City of Thunder Bay.

The Board of Directors of SJCG has overall responsibility for the governance of SJCG, providing strategic leadership in establishing its vision, mission and core values and setting policy direction to achieve them. Through a policy governance model, the Board adopts policies to ensure the effective management of the organization's human and financial resources. The Board is also responsible to its funders and the community at large for the operations of SJCG.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA AND CONDITIONS OF APPOINTMENT

Directors must be at least 18 years old.

Undischarged bankrupts are ineligible to serve as directors.

No member of the Professional Staff, employee of St. Joseph's Care Group, or spouse of a member of the Professional Staff, or spouse of an employee is eligible for membership on the Board. Membership on the Board by a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Sault Ste. Marie is not prohibited by virtue of her being an employee of St. Joseph's Care Group.

A director shall not have been convicted of a criminal offence for which a pardon has not been granted.

A director is expected to commit the time required to perform board and committee duties. The minimum time commitment is likely 10-15 hours per month.

Directors must fulfill the requirements and responsibilities of their position - for example, preparing for and attending board and committee meetings, upholding their fiduciary obligations and working cooperatively and respectfully with other board members. Directors must comply with legislation governing the hospital, its by-laws and policies, and all other applicable rules.

Directors must sign a declaration confirming their agreement to adhere to their fiduciary duties and board and corporate policies.

Successful candidates are to provide a Police Record Check (PRC) - Level 2 - Criminal Record Check and provide proof of vaccination.
