Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Very nice work, Jack (and A. Wright, too!). Congrats to all who got one, I agree with Charlie - the bolsters are an especially nice touch.

certainly very lively and vibrant compared to the example I received awhile back, that horn is amazing!

Well, it is the Super Duper afterall! :D ;) I think you might have had some suspect stock from that dealer though

I think it's worth saying a little about why the horn on these knives varies so much. Some manufacturers use pre-shaped covers, and then pin them onto the scales, others shape them correctly and then pin them. In Sheffield, they don't actually use pins at all (though they call them that), they use brass wire, which is snipped off and then ground and polished with the horn (I'm sure this is not unique to Sheffield). The surface should then be flawless, the 'pins' and the horn 'at one' so to speak, and beautifully smooth. However, this means that it's not possible to predict, with 100% accuracy, what the top layer of horn will be. If the top layer is darker than expected, for example, the only way to change that would be to scrap the knife, which would make manufacture extremely expensive. Hence the different patterns and colours in the horn on these knives :)

I think our generous leather-worker has done a superb job of the pouches. I've asked permission to post pics here :)

Oh I agree I think that they look great the red leather with the washed black dye. And the stamping is awesome the work is top notch. And just a added something to make this a special knife.

Very nice explanation jack and everyone of those even though they are a 30 peice batch are unique and one of a kind in their own way.

I think you are correct about that. My horn scales had cracks on both sides, top and bottom like it was shrinking. Its been relegated to the edc box, in fact i used it this morning to open up a letter for my metro pass. id certainly be glad to put a nicer example into the collection :)

If the scales had cracks, then it was either sold to the dealer by Wright's (heavily discounted) as a Second, or it has been mishandled. Very poor that you received it like that

Excellent, GT! Lovely grain on that one.
Nice examples GT and Flatblack!

I appreciate your comments, Dylan and Charlie. :)

That's some high-class horn there, FBC!! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

You need to have a few adventures together my friend :) I was in Barnitt's Hardware Store last weekend :)
...
I'm afraid my work schedule is going to limit my opportunities for adventure until Christmas. Still hard for me to believe I have a knife from a hardware store that you frequent, Jack!:D:thumbsup:

I found my lost ebony A. Wright Lambsfoot!:oops::D
...
After finally accepting that it was lost and mentioning it in a post here, wouldn't ya know: I went out to my car again and stood outside it, leaning in over the centre console, when I caught a tiny, familiar glimpse of brass, steel, and ebony down in the gap between the seatbelt attachment and the plastic housing of the pivot point of the drivers seat. It was wedged vertically, so that it wasn't visible when I got down behind the seat and examined the rails and underneath the seat. I'd even used a piece of wire to poke around there, a few times.

And a combo that GT might approve of!

Alan, you're starting down a slippery slope, there, my friend!;):D:p
Chin, congrats on finding your lost lambsfoot; it's a classic!!:cool::thumbsup::)
I'll approve of almost ANY knife combo, including that pair!:thumbsup:;) I'd not heard of an Escort before, so thanks for broadening my Vic horizons - basically a scissorless Classic, right? My wife does NOT approve of my paying for Escorts, though! :D:rolleyes:
The "slippery slope" Alan is on leads to Knirvana!!;)

Chin, I'm glad to hear you found your lost lambsfoot!

And hey, now we know what to get you for Christmas! :D

:D:thumbsup::D Where do you FIND all this stuff, Barrett?!?

Here's John Maleham of Arthur Wright & Son putting the 'Real Lamb Foot' etch on the 2017 Guardians Lambsfoot. You'll notice that not all the positions on the ancient etching machine are filled, that's because the etching bits wear out very quickly, and are in short supply. Let me know what you think folks, I think they came out pretty good :) I'll email everyone later (expect 2 emails), just waiting on something from one of our members. :)
