Chattanooga is implementing a new program to help first responders better communicate with people with special needs during emergencies.

The Special Needs Awareness Program, or SNAP, hels give insight about the challenges that can come up in emergency situations that involve people with special needs.

Things like communications and reactions can differ than what first responders are used to seeing.

SNAP will also provide lessons for parents and caregivers on how to communicate with first responders during emergencies.

SNAP is now a part of paid firefighter training across Tennessee.

Chattanooga Police were at the final session today to see if they would be interested in integrating the program into their department.
