Sheriff: Woman charged after striking wheelchair-bound man

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A Jones County woman has been charged after the sheriff said she assaulted a man bound to a wheelchair.

On October 9, deputies were dispatched to a home on Mill Creek Road in reference to an assault.

When deputies arrived, the sheriff said they found the victim with a large knot on his head and blood coming out of his ear.

Deputies then came into contact with Rachel Starcher, 45, of Laurel.

According to the sheriff, she lived at the residence and admitted to striking the man, saying she was sorry and "snapped."

Starcher was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault.

She will make her initial appearance in court Wednesday October 11th at 1 p.m.
