Senior Software Engineer Ruby on Rails (Remote / US start up)

Primary Goals

Support Ruby on Rails-based API component, make it manageable and controlled

Propose and implement changes in API, including migration from RoR

Requirements

Degree in Computer Science or related major preferred

5+ years of professional experience working with web applications using Ruby on Rails and PHP (both required)

Experience working with RDBMS (MySQL, PostgreSQL), understanding concepts, edge cases, patterns, DB optimization and design

Experience designing and implementing REST APIs or HTTP APIs

Experience working with common backend tools and technologies like proxies, load balancers, queues, caches, object storages, transactional logs, etc.

Familiarity with containerized applications delivery (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD

Familiarity with Linux

Experience with the agile development environment, high amount of uncertainty, working with tech debt, legacy code

Soft skills: passion and motivation to dig deep, develop an understanding of the system, own the system, read the code to understand what it does, find out the truth and propose quality changes. Good communication (English verbal and written), teamplay and candor

Nice to have

Experience with modern front end technologies (HTML5, CSS, React/Vue/Angular/etc) and/or mobile development (iOS/Android via native or cross-platform tools)

Experience with AWS tools and technologies
